A container cannot be picked up while any hold is in place. Holds are released by the party that placed them — customs, the steamship line, or whoever is responsible for the freight charges.

About per diem and demurrage
If a container sits past its last free day, the marine terminal charges demurrage. If the empty goes back late, the steamship line charges per diem. Those are the terminal's and the line's charges, assessed on your container and settled by you — they are not our charges and we do not carry them. Moving the box before the last free day is the only way to avoid them.
